The Kansas City Star, "Flavoring maker must pay couple $15 million"
A former popcorn-plant worker and his wife were awarded $15 million Friday after a jury found that exposure to butter-flavoring fumes led to his severe lung problems.
After a two-week trial, the Jasper County jury took just 15 minutes to find International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. liable and awarded $12 million to Jasper, Mo., resident Richard Brand, 51, and $3 million to his wife, Lana Brand, 47.
Richard Brand was employed at the Gilster-Mary Lee Corp. microwave popcorn plant in Jasper. International Flavors made the popcorn's butter flavoring.
